Roundup: Trio receives MEC football honors

Zach Shademan of West Virginia Wesleyan, along with D'Gary Wallace and D.J. Mendenhall of Urbana, have been named Mountain East Conference football layers of the week.

Schademan earned offensive honors, hauling in eight passes for 208 yards in Wesleyan's 38-21 victory over West Liberty.

Wallace picked up defensive accolades, leading an Urbana defense that held its opponent to under 13 points for the fifth-straight game in a 41-5 win over Fairmont State.

Mendenhall earns the special teams award for the Blue Knights after punting six times for an average of 42.2 yards, dropping two punts inside the 20-yard line with a long of 60 yards.

    The Mountaineers (13-3-2, 7-1 Big 12) claimed their second straight Big 12 Conference regular-season championship and fourth consecutive conference championship with a 2-1 double-overtime win at Oklahoma on Oct. 25. WVU closed out their regular-season slate with a 2-0 loss at Texas Tech on Oct. 27.

  • West Virginia men's swimming and diving senior Bryce Bohman has been named the WVU Varsity Sport Report athlete of the week.
  • In his individual races over the weekend at the WVU Invite, Bohman won three of four events, nearly taking another pool record this season in the 200 back, with a time of 1:48.19. He also won the 100 fly (49.80) and 100 back (48.49).
