The University of Charleston men's basketball team shot just 2 of 12 from 3-point range while Shepherd made 10 of its 22 attempts as the Rams pounded the visiting Golden Eagles 87-72 on Sunday.
It was the sixth win in a row for Shepherd (7-1 overall, 4-0 Mountain East Conference).
Brantly Osborne scored 22 points to lead five double-digit scorers for the Rams. Austin Cunningham (16), Kevin Jones (16), Marcus Pilgrim (15) and Morgan McDonald (14 points, 10 rebounds) also made significant scoring contributions for Shepherd.
Denzel Douglas led UC (5-2, 2-2) with 15 points followed by Fred Simpson with 14, Aleksander Kesic with 12 and Xavier Humphrey with 11.
Nichole Perry hit 8 3-pointers en route to a game-high 24 points for Charleston (5-2, 1-2) while LeAnne Ross chipped in with 19 points.
Cara Mason scored 18 points off the bench to lead Shepherd (1-6, 1-2) while Briana Vaden and Jimyse Brown added 17 points apiece.
WVU WRESTLING: The West Virginia wrestling team ended the Hoosier Duals with a 5-0 mark after beating host No. 25 Indiana and Northern Colorado on Sunday. Sophomore Bubba Scheffel (174 pounds) led the way, picking up five wins over the weekend and setting a single-season school pin record with 14, breaking the mark held by Scott Collins.
