Prep basketball: Chas. Catholic girls edge Parkersburg Catholic
Vida Imani scored a layup and hit an ensuing foul shot with 1.5 seconds left to lift visiting Charleston Catholic over Parkersburg Catholic 52-51 Thursday in girls basketball. Anna Whelan led the Irish (2-0) with 25 points and Hanna Gallian chipped in 10. Alex Schaffer led the Crusaders (1-3) with 18 points.
BUFFALO 59, WIRT COUNTY 37: Chelsey Parkins poured in a game-high 26 points as Buffalo handled homestanding Wirt County. Olivia Dunn chipped in with 17 points for the Bison. Liz Adams led Wirt County with nine points.
CHAPMANVILLE 48, POCA 37: Kristen DesRocher netted 22 points to lead Chapmanville to a road win. Autumn Blankenship and Abigail Marcum both scored seven points for the Tigers (2-0). Casey Skeens led the Dots (0-4) with 10 points.
NITRO 56, CAPITAL 53: Savannah Shamblin registered 18 points and Tiffany Reavis had 16 as Nitro (3-0) picked up a victory on the road. Alex Gray led all scorers with 24 points for the Cougars (1-1).
PARKERSBURG SOUTH 75, WHEELING PARK 42: Carlie Wilson recorded 14 points and 11 rebounds to help Parkersburg South beat visiting Wheeling Park. Katelyn Byrd led South (2-0) with 15 points and point guard Taryn McCutcheon had eight points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. Kelsi Johnson led Wheeling Park (2-1) with 14 points.
GREEN. EAST 96, FAYETTEVILLE 40: Chaunte McDowell netted 26 points as Greenbrier East rolled to a home win. Lexi Tincher added 15 for the Spartans (3-0). Maddie Pritt scored 18 for Fayetteville (3-1).
ELK VALLEY 58, SHERMAN 53: Hannah Williams poured in 25 points as Elk Valley Christian downed visiting Sherman. Jamie Brown added 11 points for Elk Valley (4-2). Jordan Lewis paced the Tide with 25 points while Sarah Massey chipped in 15.
TUCKER 62, TYGARTS VALLEY 22: Bekah Simmons, Aiyana Kachmerek and Elizabeth Nichols scored nine points each as Tucker County (2-0) picked up a home win. Paige Pritt led Tygarts Valley (3-1) with eight points.
CATHOLIC 80, CROSS LANES 31: Nick George tallied 19 points as Charleston Catholic earned a road win. Aaron Persily added 17 points for the Fighting Irish (1-0). Tyler Corbin had 12 points for Cross Lanes Christian.
SCOTT 87, MINGO CENTRAL 83: Dylan DeHart had 23 points and Eric May 21 to pace the visiting Skyhawks to an opening win. Cody Brown added 14 points and five assists for Scott. Alex Lee (21 points) and Mallie May (16) led the Miners.
HUNTINGTON 78, MIDLAND 51: J.R. Howard scored 23 points and Tavian Dunn-Martin 18 for the host Highlanders (0-1), who were minus starters Arick Nicks and Nick Tubbs, still out from football season. Keegan Adkins had 12 points for Cabell Midland.
