Prep basketball roundup: Winfield boys down Nitro 84-63

Bear Bellomy poured in 35 points behind seven 3-pointers as Winfield downed Nitro 84-63 Saturday in boys high school basketball.

Bellamy, who canned 7 of 13 from long range, also grabbed 10 rebounds. Zach Fisher netted 26 points and contributed eight boards, five steals and three assists for the Generals (2-0), while Toby Show dropped in 10 points. Winfield's Cole Schoolcraft had six points, nine assists and seven rebounds.

Winfield led 24-18 after the opening quarter then outscored the Wildcats 31-15 in the second and third periods combined to seize a 55-33 lead.

Trayvon Taylor paced Nitro with 12 points while J.P. Mawyer had 11 and Buck Shepherd and Tyler Barton 10 apiece.

  • SISSONVILLE 63, NICHOLAS 57: Nathan Miller turned in 13 points and 12 rebounds as the homestanding Indians held off Nicholas County in both teams' season opener.  Chance Brown added 12 points and Adam Robinson 11 for Sissonville. Jared Tharp led the Grizzlies with a game-high 21 points.
  • RAVENSWOOD 56, RITCHIE 52: Jake Martin netted 22 points to help the visiting Red Devils get past Ritchie County.
  • Isaac Crow contributed 10 points and 10 boards for Ravenswood (2-0). Seth Cottrill scored 19 points and Bradley Leggett 15 to pace the Rebels (1-1).

    Friday's game

  • ROANE 65, SOUTH HARRISON 57: Roane County had four players score double-figures to hold off visiting South Harrison. Jacob Neal led the Raiders (1-1) with 19 points and Tyler Harper scored 16. Dylan Smith recorded a game-high 28 points and Zak Wentz netted 16 for the Hawks (0-2).

  • ST. JOE 75, LOGAN 46: Rachel Lee netted 26 points as Class A St. Joseph cruised past the AAA Wildcats at Chapmanville High School.
  • Mychal Johnson added 19 points and Griffin Dempsey scored 15 for the Fighting Irish (4-1), who are the Class A five-time defending state champion. Monica Mitchell recorded 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats (0-2), who were AAA state runners-up last season.

  • SUMMERS 78, CLAY 73: Brandy Morrison poured in 36 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Summers County outlasted Clay County in double-overtime in the championship game of the Rogers Oil Classic at Pocahontas County.
  • Whittney Justice chipped in 15 points and Avery Pivont 13 the Bobcats (4-0). Katelyn Horrocks led the Panthers (2-1) with 16 points.

  • WYOMING EAST 70, OAK HILL 24: Chiara Jewell tallied 15 points as the Warriors routed the host Red Devils. Megan Davis recorded 10 points for Wyoming East (2-1). For Oak Hill (1-3), Savannah Keffer had six.
  • ST. ALBANS 80, POINT PLEASANT 13: Breanna Propst scored 20 points as St. Albans rolled to a win over visiting Point Pleasant. Lexie Cooper added 15 points for the Red Dragons (2-1) and Haleigh Legg scored 12.
  • PIKEVIEW 64, CHAPMANVILLE 50: Lyndsay Hatfield scored 17 points to lead PikeView to a win on the road. Lauryn Hatfield added 12 points for the Panthers (3-0), while Madison May and Courtney White each scored 11. Kristin DesRocher had 20 points for the Tigers (2-1).
