Prep roundup: Propst leads St. Albans girls past South Charleston 58-54
Breanna Propst scored a game-high 27 points as visiting St. Albans outlasted South Charleston 58-54 in girls high school basketball Friday.
Tori Wilson chipped in nine points and Haleigh Legg contributed eight for the Red Dragons (5-1). Aaliyah Dunham and Talia Cashwell each sank 15 points to lead the Black Eagles (4-2).
Jahneese Clements (13 points), India Hairston (11) and Jenna Bsharah (11) all scored double-figures for the Cougars. Cassidy Taylor led Roane County with 10 points.
Brittany Gould led the way with 18 points, 14 rebounds, eight assists, four steals and three blocks. Also for Sissonville (5-0), Madison Jones scored 19, Karli Pinkerton 15 and Brooke Reed 10. Reed also pulled down 10 rebounds. Emily Marsh scored five points to pace the Pioneers (0-4).
Hannah King scored 29 points to lead the Huskies (5-1), who led 38-16 at halftime. Bethany Romine added 12 points.
For Parkersburg Catholic (2-5), Alex Schaffer had 15 points, Reily Sturm 14 and Alexis Saunders 11.
Tiffany Reavis contributed 18 points and 16 rebounds for the Wildcats (7-0). Savannah Shamblin and Halie Miller added 11 points each.
Anna Whelan led the Irish (3-1) with 13 points.
Jordan Presley added 12 points for the Rebels (2-3). Sarah Ryder led the Warriors (4-2) with 17 points.
Tolsia will play Nicholas County today in the championship matchup and Pocahontas County will face James Monroe in the consolation game.
Katelyn Horrocks scored a game-high 16 points for the Panthers (4-2). Abigail Lightner led the Hawks with nine points.
Lyndsay Hatfield totaled 17 points, Madison May added 13 and Courtney White had 10 for PikeView (7-1), which trailed 15-10 after the first quarter but outscored Graham 17-5 in the second. Lexi Kiser scored 14 and Dejah Carter 13 for Graham.
A.D. Cunningham and Jordan Lewis scored 19 points each for the Black Eagles (3-0), who broke the game open by outscoring Point Pleasant 29-5 in the third quarter. Brandon Knapper added 14 points for SC, which will face Cincinnati Woodward at 7 p.m. today.
Nick Templeton scored 13 points and Adam Yates 12 for Point Pleasant, which will face St. Clairsville, Ohio, at 5:15 p.m. today.
Jordan Hayes chipped in 13 points and Cody Lester netted 12 for the Warriors (2-0). James Ingram recorded a game-high 23 points for Cincinnati Woodward (4-4). Wyoming East will take on North Marion tonight in the championship game.
Devonti Birch led RCB (3-0) with 18 points and Luke Dyer and Justin Noble contributed 15 each. Russell Schwertfeger had 23 to lead Brooke (3-3), Anthony Barnhart had 13 and Thomas Cole 11.
Obi Romeo contributed a double-double with 16 points and 22 rebounds for the Spartans (3-1). Ben Collie led the Crusaders (3-2) with 15 points and Joe Padden scored 14.
John Hodges and Austin Moore each scored 11 for the Bison (4-1). Wyatt Zuspan and Hunter Rose led the White Falcons (1-5) with 13 points each.
Davis finished with 17 points and Schylar Kelly scored 14 for the Panthers (1-5). Cody Garrett led the Buccaneers (2-3) with 10 points.
Kenny Plumley added 14 points for the Tigers (5-0), who will take on Riverside tonight at 8 in the championship game.
For Mount View, Darrell Barnes scored 12 points.
SWIM MEET: The 2013 HYCAT December Holiday High School Invitational hosted by Nitro High School will be held today in the University of Charleston's natatorium.
Meet director Greg Olson expects 110 swimmers from Capital, George Washington, Hurricane, Nitro and Point Pleasant high schools to compete. Based on submitted times, George Washington is the pre-meet favorite to take home the girls, boys and combined team titles.
The meet is scheduled to start at 1:15 p.m.
