Senior Bo King exploded for 32 points as the West Virginia State men's basketball team bested Concord 94-85 Saturday at the Carter Center in Athens.
The Yellow Jackets (7-6, 4-6 Mountain East Conference) had their best 3-point shooting performance of the season, hitting 10 of 21 attempts. State also outrebounded the Mountain Lions 54-37.
Dominic Phillips contributed 19 points for State and Steve Wing had 15. Concord (5-11, 2-8) was paced by Cam Shannon and Mike Boyd, both with 16 points.
TECH MEN WIN: WVU Tech trailed Wilberforce by as many as 22 points Saturday, but was able to pull off the comeback to win its third game in a row by defeating the Bulldogs 93-86 in Wilberforce, Ohio.
Stephen Coles paced the Golden Bears (11-9) with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Leon Cooper added 20 points. Sean Cassidy led Wilberforce with 22 points.
STATE WOMEN LOSE: Concord used a 10-0 run late in the second half and posted a 76-67 win over the West Virginia State at the Carter Center in Athens.
The Yellow Jackets (11-5, 7-3 MEC) were led in scoring by Lexy Carson with 18 points, while India Taste and Asia Greenleaf chipped in 17 and 15 points, respectively. Sissy Wagner paced Concord (7-6, 5-5) with 20 points.
UC WOMEN WIN: LeAnn Ross scored 13 points as the University of Charleston defeated Virginia-Wise 68-52 Saturday at the Eddie King Gymnasium in Charleston.
The Golden Eagles (10-4, 6-4 MEC) held the Cavaliers to just 31 percent shooting. Nichole Perry and Monet Saunders had 11 points apiece for UC. Kayla Carey led the Cavaliers (7-7, 3-7) with a game-high 19 points.
WVU WOMEN WIN: Senior guard Christal Caldwell tallied 23 points in a 77-63 West Virginia basketball victory over Oklahoma Saturday at the WVU Coliseum.
