BECKLEY, W.Va. - For George Washington, this was more like it.
A day after getting roughed up in the first round of the Big Atlantic Classic, the Patriots returned to the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center Friday and rolled to a 66-41 girls consolation-round win against Hedgesville.
Alanna Mobayed led a balanced effort with 13 points and four assists for the Patriots (5-6), and Maria Romeo and Haley Stewart each added a dozen points.
GW hit five 3-pointers in the first half in grabbing a 41-20 lead at the break.
"We faced a very good University team [Thursday],'' said GW coach Jamie LaMaster, "and they didn't allow us to do a lot. They scored the ball and we had difficulty against that pressure matchup play.
"Today, we were able to move the ball a little bit and we were able to score early and often. We were rotating eight, nine kids through against them, and they're not very deep. We looked a lot smoother today.''
Carly Elliott led the Eagles with 19 points and seven rebounds.
GW also got nine points and six rebounds in 23 minutes from Kelli Jo Harrison, who was playing in just her third game back following off-season knee surgery. She led GW in scoring last season.
