I also asked if Juwan Staten, who scored 35 points in the outing before Oklahoma, might try his luck with the NBA draft after this season. Staten is a junior.
"It's always a possibility," Huggins said. "But the subject has never come up."
And finally . . .
A few words on the Mike Parsons situation.
As you might recall, Parsons, the long-time WVU deputy athletic director, was released from his duties last week. He was then given $325,000 as part of a departing settlement.
Hopefully, the settlement soothed wounds. Parsons has always been a professional in regard to the media. He's always been a gentleman. From what I've been able to piece together, Luck simply felt Parsons expendable after the school signed with IMG last summer. The company, Luck apparently felt, took over the duties Parsons handled for years, most notably under ex-athletic director Ed Pastilong. Of course, there also had to be awkward moments between Luck and Parsons after WVU signed with IMG. The Mountaineer Sports Network, which was supplanted, was Parsons' baby.
So Parsons was sent packing. He didn't, however, exactly go quietly. The former deputy AD hired lawyer Mike Carey.
That had to trigger memories for Luck of Mike Kerin, the longtime director of football operations. When Kerin was released, he filed a lawsuit against WVU, ex-school president Jim Clements, Luck and Holgorsen. In his initial filing, Kerin argued the defendants acted in a pattern of discriminatory behavior by terminating experienced employees to hire younger ones.
Not wanting to go down that road again - and perhaps giving a nod to Parsons' years of service - WVU reached the settlement, which eradicates any claims by Parsons against the school.
There still is the ongoing litigation between WVU and West Virginia Radio Corporation. Parsons will undoubtedly be a star witness for the latter. He cannot be silenced in regard to that.
But here's hoping both WVU and Parsons have now found some peace with their split.
