CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Winfield junior Jayne Lawman was named the Gatorade West Virginia girls soccer player of the year Thursday.
The forward scored 23 goals and added seven assists in leading Winfield (23-1-1) to its second straight Class AAA state championship last November. Lawman, who has verbally committed to Marshall, was also an All-American selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and the West Virginia player of the year as chosen by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
Lawman has maintained a 3.68 grade-point average and has volunteered locally at a homeless shelter and as a youth soccer coach. She is now a finalist for the Gatorade national award, which will be announced in May.
