WVU SPORTS: The West Virginia gymnastics team fell 196.025-194.175 Friday to Iowa State in Ames, Iowa. Senior Hope Sloanhoffer won her fourth straight all-around crown with a 39.325 showing, setting or matching season highs on bars and beam and earned two top-three finishes for the Mountaineers (4-4, 0-1 Big 12).
The Mountaineers (10-5) did not trail in a single weight class, and the victory gives them the most wins in a season since 2002, when West Virginia finished 12-2 and 13th at the NCAA championships.
AREA TENNIS: The Charleston YMCA will be holding its annual Marshall Alumni and Friends Tennis Tournament on Feb. 21-23.
There will be men's and women's singles, doubles and mixed doubles along with boys and girls 14-and-under divisions and boys and girls 16-and under divisions. Adult entrants must register online using the tournament ID number 856337914 and junior divisions must register through the YMCA tennis office.
