CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The George Washington boys basketball team cracked the Class AAA top ten, making it a trio of Kanawha Valley schools ranked in the state's highest classification as polls were released Monday.
The Patriots joined No. 2 South Charleston and No. 7 Capital, with everyone trailing No. 1 Washington. Poca jumped up to No. 2 in Class AA behind No. 1 Robert C. Byrd and St. Joseph and Notre Dame held the top spots in Class A with No. 5 Valley and No. 8 Charleston Catholic also ranked.
Both No. 10 St. Albans and No. 9 South Charleston joined the Class AAA poll in girls this week with Parkersburg South and Greenbrier East still holding down the top two positions.
Fairmont Senior is the only new No. 1 team this week as the Polar Bears overtook Summers County in Class AA with Sissonville holding onto the No. 5 spot. Charleston Catholic moved up a position to No. 7 in Class A with St. Joseph, St. Marys, Gilmer County, and Tucker County keeping their places in the top four.
