GW (11-9), which began the season in the AP poll's top 10 before falling out, lost for the fourth time in the last five years in the MSAC title tilt.
"Two aspects of the game and there wasn't really anything we could do about it about, we were getting killed on the boards,'' said GW coach Jamie LaMaster. "We weren't getting beat on first shots as we were on second and third shots where you play good defense and there's a rebound, a kick out and a 3. And we can't match [Spring Valley] bucket for bucket. We're just not there yet.''
Stewart finished with a team-high 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting for GW.
Patriots senior post Kelli Jo Harrison, who played in her 13th game since returning from a knee injury last month, contributed eight points, 10 boards and three blocks and junior point guard Alanna Mobayed, who was battling strep throat this week, added eight points, five rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Patriots guard Jessica Lowen added 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
