Area roundup: Taste leads State women to win
India Taste recorded a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds as the West Virginia State women's basketball team bested Virginia-Wise 82-58 Tuesday in Institute.
Lexy Carson chipped in 16 points for the Yellow Jackets (18-9, 14-7 Mountain East Conference). Taylor Sandidge and Makenzie Cluesman had 12 points apiece for Wise (9-16, 5-16).
WVU SPORTS: The WVU women's basketball is ranked No. 10 this week in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll. The Mountaineers (24-3, 13-2) are up from No. 14 last week and currently rank No. 11 in the Associated Press Poll.
TECH BASEBALL: WVU Tech lost to Gannon University 3-0 in its home-opener Tuesday at the Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley. Marc-Richard Culmer and Zach Sizemore had hits for the Golden Bears (0-4).
CONCORD BASEBALL: Concord senior first baseman Joey Miller has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writer Association's Atlantic Regional Hitter of the Week. Miller helped the Mountain Lions take two out of three games against Pitt-Johnson, going 9 for 13 with four runs, two home runs and seven RBIs.
