The University of Charleston women's basketball team earned its eighth straight home win as it dismantled Concord 66-48 Wednesday at the Eddie King Gymnasium.
Sophomore guard LeAnne Ross nailed five 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 15 points to lead the Golden Eagles (18-7, 14-7 Mountain East Conference) and Chyress Lockhart tallied 12 points and six assists. Rachel Artrip paced the Mountain Lions (9-16, 7-15) with 12 points.
WVU SPORTS: West Virginia men's basketball player Kevin Noreen has been named to the 2014 Academic All-Big 12 men's basketball first team and teammate Gary Browne received second-team honors. This is the second consecutive season that Noreen has earned a first-team selection.
MARSHALL SPORTS: The Marshall University women's basketball team committed 22 turnovers as it fell to Florida Atlantic 87-68 Wednesday at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington. Norrisha Victrum and Chukwuka Ezeigbo each notched 16 points for the Thundering Herd (9-18, 2-12 Conference USA). The Owls (14-13, 4-10 C-USA) were led by Kimberly Smith, who netted a game-high 26 points.
MEC SPORTS: The Mountain East Conference has six men's basketball teams ranked in the most recent NCAA Atlantic Regional Rankings released Wednesday. The MEC held six of the 10 possible slots, including West Liberty, who held down the top spot in the region. The University of Charleston came in ranked fourth, followed by Shepherd at fifth. Glenville State (eighth), Fairmont State (ninth) and West Virginia Wesleyan (10th) rounded out the poll.
