Prep roundup: Catholic's McClanahan gets milestone win

Bill McClanahan earned his 265th career win, tying him with Mickey McDade for the all-time school record, as Charleston Catholic defeated visiting Braxton County 83-27 Thursday night in boys high school basketball.

Nick George posted 21 points for the Irish (16-6) and Garret McCarty chipped in 16. Tony Conrad paced Braxton County with 10 points. McClanahan can break the record in Tuesday's Class A Region 4 Section 2 opener against Buffalo.

Poca 82, Wayne 36: Noah Frampton exploded for 29 points as host Poca rolled to its 19th straight victory. The win gives Poca (21-1) a 14-0 record in the Cardinal Conference, the second team in history to go undefeated in conference play. Matt Chandler added 11 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for the Dots. Tucker Watts and Brett Justice each scored 10 for the Pioneers (11-11).

South Charleston 80, Shady Spring 58: The Black Eagles raced out to a 24-6 lead and rolled past Shady Spring. Brandon Knapper scored 17 points for SC (20-1) while Kentre Grier added 16, A.D. Cunningham 15 and Anthony Billings 14. Steven Chhabra netted 22 points for the Tigers while Tyler Bonds chipped in 18 and Nate  Williams 12.

Parkersburg South 77, George Washington 64: Parkersburg South jumped out to a 22-8 lead in the first quarter and cruised to a home win. Ty Dobson netted 19 points for Parkersburg South (16-6) and Logan Lawrentz added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Jon Elmore poured in 45 points to lead George Washington (17-5).

Winfield 68, Oak Hill 58: Bear Bellomy tossed in 26 points as Winfield held off visiting Oak Hill on senior night. Zack Fisher scored 21 points for the Generals (13-9). Jalen Jones led the Red Devils with 23 points.

Nitro 59, Princeton 50: Ian Lee poured in 24 points as Nitro won at home and snapped a nine-game losing streak. Devon Hannah added 10 points for the Wildcats (4-18). Jacob Whittington had 10 points for Princeton.

Huntington 64, St. Albans 42: Aric Nicks scored 18 points as Huntington rolled to a road win. Chancelor Wooding added 16 points and Anthony Meadows netted 10 for the Highlanders. Cody Young paced the Red Dragons (4-18) with 10 points.

Spring Valley 77, Parkersburg 75: Jacob Kilgore tallied 22 points as Spring Valley secure a home win in the Mountain State Athletic Conference 7th-place game. Josh Steele added 20 points for the Timberwolves (14-7). JaDarian Wade had a game-high 24 points for Parkersburg while Cole Day chipped in 19.

Greenbrier East 85, Elkins 59: Rondale Watson scored 27 points as Greenbrier East secured a home win. Logan Phillips added 16 points for the Spartans (17-5). Colby Gainer recorded a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds for Elkins (11-9).

Lincoln County 78, Sherman 65: Schylar Kelly netted 16 points and Jacob Hudson added 14 as Lincoln County (6-14) posted a home win. Sherman (8-13) was led by Cody Muncy with 17 points and Blake Brewer with 15.

Wednesday's boys game

River View 78, Van 50: Taylor DeHaven scored 29 points and Tyree Baker 16 to pace the host Raiders to victory. For the Bulldogs (7-14), Brandon Elswick had 17 points and Cole Price 12.

Girls

Bluefield 50, PikeView 43: Destiney Simms scored 15 points as Bluefield edged host PikeView in the Class AA Region 3 Section 2 tournament. Jesslyn Fullerton scored 12 points and Essence Brown netted 10 for the Beavers. Lyndsay Hatfield led the Panthers (17-4) with 18 points and Courtney White added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Mountain View Christian 35, South Charleston Christian 34: Kaelea Smith hit a free throw in overtime as Mountain View Christian School escaped with a road win. Smith and Hannah Vickers each scored 12 points for Mountain View (8-4). Haileah Light led South Charleston Christian Academy (1-16) with 12 points.

Wednesday's girls game

Ritchie County 63, Ravenswood 61: The Rebels outscored the host Red Devils 23-12 in the fourth quarter to force overtime then eked out the victory in the Class AA Region 1 Section 2 semifinals. Vanessa Tallman poured in 29 points for Ritchie, which will take on Webster County at 7 p.m. today. Stephanie Kirk added 13 points for the Rebels. Hailey Miller and Taylor Treadway tallied 14 points and five assists apiece for Ravenswood (16-5).
