Boys sectional roundup: SA edges Nitro, Ripley ousts Riverside
St. Albans battled back from a 16-point deficit but committed a costly turnover in the final minute, and the Red Dragons fell to visiting Nitro 56-55 Wednesday night in the Class AAA Region 4 Section 1 boys tournament.
Ian Lee paced the Wildcats with 19 points and Neil Sallada scored 18. Kevic Watkins led the Red Dragons with 15 points and Cody Young and Jeff Seams each netted 13.
Ripley 70, Riverside 67: Justin McKown made 3 of 4 free throws in the final 30 seconds of overtime as visiting Ripley slipped past Riverside in the Class AAA Region 3 Section 1 tournament. Riverside led 56-45 with 4:30 left in the game and still held a 61-53 advantage with 40 seconds to go. A technical foul was called on the Warriors with 39 seconds left, which allowed Ripley to tie the game and send it into overtime. Jamison Hunt led the Vikings with 20 points and Drew Harpold added 14. Riverside, which finished the season with its first winning record since 2002-3, was led by Tamar Lawson's 27 points and Josh Carpenter added 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Scott 79, Wayne 41: Anthony Sigmon posted 18 points and 13 rebounds as Scott earned a home victory in the Class AA Region 4 Section 2 tournament. Cody Brown added seven points and 10 assists and Nick Kuhn and Patrick Underwood each scored nine for the Skyhawks (17-6). Bret Justice led the Pioneers with 15 points and Nate Earl netted 10.
Ravenswood 62, Webster County 45: Riley Heatherington poured in 26 points as host Ravenswood beat Webster County in the Class AA Region 1 Section 2 semifinal. Jake Martin scored 19 points for the Red Devils (14-9) and Heath Burgess tallied eight points. Stephen Cogar paced the Highlanders (8-15) with 13 points.
Parkersburg South 72, Brooke 56: Logan Lawrentz recorded 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead host Parkersburg South past Brooke County in the Class AAA Region 1 Section 1 semifinal. Ty Dobson paced the Patriots (17-6) with 19 points and J.R. Kerr added 11 points. Thomas Cole led the Bruins (11-12) with 16 points.
Roane County 69, Ritchie County 40: Jacob Neal tossed in 21 points as host Roane County cruised past Ritchie County in the Class AA Region 1 Section 2 tournament. Scotti Meadows netted 14 points for the Raiders (18-5). Seth Cottrill led the Rebels (6-16) with 15 points and Riley Allen scored 12.
Greenbrier East 73, Oak Hill 57: Obi Romeo sank 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Greenbrier East handled visiting Oak Hill in the Class AAA Region 3 Section 2 tournament. Rondale Watson added 19 points and Josh Tunstalle scored 17 for the Spartans (18-5). Jalen Jones led the Red Devils with 18 points.
Cabell Midland 68, Lincoln County 48: Cabell Midland jumped out to a 34-23 lead in the first half as it put away visiting Lincoln County in the Class AAA Region 4 Section tournament. Coy Pettit led the Knights (5-18) with 17 points and Keegan Adkins notched 10 points. Jake Reynolds led the Panthers with 15 points.
