Henry's 26 lights up Herd
Pierria' Henry scored a season-high 26 points as Charlotte downed Marshall 74-70 Thursday night in the regular-season finale at Cam Henderson Center.
The result dropped the Herd to 10-21 overall and 4-12 in Conference USA. Marshall will be the 14th seed at the Conference USA tournament Tuesday weekend, and appears to be facing Florida Atlantic at 8 p.m. EDT.
Henry scored 19 of his points in the second half, helping break open a game that featured eight ties and 10 lead changes in the first half. But his best work came on the final play of the first half.
With the 49ers (16-13, 7-9) up 32-31 and 4.9 seconds left, Henry rushed up the court to about the 3-point line and found Mike Thorne Jr. for the buzzer-beating alley-oop dunk. Charlotte led the entire second half, taking 11-point advantages twice.
Thorne had a big day as well, scoring 18 points and grabbing nine rebounds. He made his first eight shots, as he and Willie Clayton had their way inside offensively. Clayton finished with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting.
Marshall was led by Chris Thomas' 22 points and Kareem Canty's 17, but the pair combined to shoot 14 of 38 from the floor. Marshall shot 38.6 percent to Charlotte's even 50 percent.
