Herd signs Texas juco shooter

Marshall's basketball team landed the signature of 6-foot-4 shooting guard/small forward D.D. Scarver, a highly touted Texas junior college product.

The Birmingham, Ala., native finished his finished his career at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas, as the Region 14 player of the year. He averaged 24.1 points for a 21-9 team, shooting 36 percent from 3-point range and 83 percent from the free-throw line.

Scarver once committed to Southern Mississippi under the Golden Eagles' previous coach, Larry Eustachy. He visited the Marshall campus in late April.
