Amayo expected to join Herd Thursday
Advertiser

Kelvin Amayo, the 6-foot-4 guard from Riverside, N.J., who enrolled at Marshall in January, is expected to join the Marshall basketball team Thursday.

Amayo signed with Towson for the 2011-12 season, but his eligibility waiver was denied by the NCAA in September 2011. He entered Marshall for the spring semester as a nonqualifier, meaning he had to attend that and the just-concluding fall semester.

Towson's website said Amayo chose that school over Seton Hall, Providence and the College of Charleston. Coach Pat Skerry said at the time, "He's a lead guard that if you put the ball in his hands, he can make a lot of plays out there for himself and others."

Amayo's debut could come on a big stage - the Herd battles Kentucky at Rupp Arena at 4 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2. He will not appear in the Herd's home game Wednesday night against Savannah State.
