CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- New Marshall assistant football coach Anthony Midget is experienced in helping build a program - from scratch.
The Clewiston, Fla., native is no stranger in recruiting the Sunshine State, and that goes back to when he was recruited by Holliday. His final choice of schools was between Virginia Tech and West Virginia, which high school rival JuJuan Seider picked.
Now he is on Seider's team, and counts a good relationship with another ex-Hokie, defensive line coach J.C. Price.
"Anthony is an excellent addition to our staff," Holliday said. "He brings us a wealth of experience, not only as a coach but also a scholar-athlete who competed at the highest level."
Midget got into coaching in 2002 at Lake Worth (Fla.) High School and then spent the 2007 season as a graduate assistant at Virginia Tech before taking his first full-time job at Georgia State.
And if you're wondering, Midget isn't that small, at least for a former cornerback. He said he is an even 6-foot, but played at 5-11 in college.
"For some reason, I've grown a little since I stopped playing," he said.

Not a 5-7 season, as he will try to improve upon at Marshall, but 0-0.
Midget, whose hiring by Marshall was announced Monday by coach Doc Holliday, comes from Georgia State, where he served under Bill Curry from 2008-12.
That means he was in on the Panthers' football program from the very start. From practicing on different fields, playing their way through the FCS into its entry into the Sun Belt, etc.
Midget, who was Curry's defensive coordinator last season, is ready for anything.
"It was a great experience being able to build something from the ground up, the entire program," he said. "Seeing the difficulties in trying to put everything together."
Now, he will join the MU staff as a defensive coach. His role has yet to be publicly announced, but his expertise is in the secondary. He served as secondary coach at Georgia State, and was a four-year letterman at cornerback at Virginia Tech from 1996-99. He started three years and was a first-team All-Big East pick as a senior.
He also coordinated special teams at Georgia State, and he recruited and tutored Colonial Athletic Association co-special teams player of the year Albert Wilson.
