Trailing 26-21 with 2:27 remaining, the Vikings put together an eight-play, 72-yard scoring drive to even their record at 1-1.
The decisive touchdown came on a 1-yard dive by quarterback Seth Parsons with 45 seconds left. Ripley kept the late drive alive with key receptions by Jacob Parsons, Matt Mellert and Scotty Ullom.
Parsons accounted for all four Viking scores by throwing two TD passes and running for two more. The senior completed 12-of-19 passes for 192 yards.
Viking coach Jimmy Frashier said the ball was in the right hands at the end of the game.
"Seth played an unbelievable game," Frashier said. "He let the game come to him and he took advantage of what was there. That's Seth."
Greenbrier East, which beat Lincoln County in its opener, scored first Friday.
The Spartans took advantage of good field position at the Viking 37, thanks to an interception by Dylan Hanna. The TD came six plays later on a 5-yard run by quarterback Brandon Dolan.

Ripley answered with a 66-yard drive capped by Parsons' 5-yard run late in the first quarter.
The Spartans retook the lead in the opening minute of the second quarter on a 45-yard scoring strike from Dolan to Ethan Mounts.
Ripley tied the game at 14 on Parsons' 35-yard toss to Jeff Walls midway through the period. The Vikings took a seven-point lead with just nine seconds remaining in the half on a 10-yard TD pass to Jacob Parsons.
After a scoreless third quarter, East got a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns from Travis Butts, but failed on both conversion attempts to lead by five prior to the dramatic drive by the Vikings.
Frashier described it as a crucial win for his team.
"Getting the first one by coming from behind like this was big for us," he said. "We're still a little banged up from some preseason injuries, but we're getting better."
East running back Brent Robertson had 112 yards on nine carries, including an 82-yard run from the Spartan 5-yard line. Ullom was Ripley's top receiver with six catches for 89 yards.
Ripley travels to Hurricane on Friday. East plays at home that night against Spring Valley.
