Girls soccer: Nitro upends Sissonville 4-3

Kayla Bilak netted three goals for the third consecutive game as Nitro, despite having three starters out, defeated Class AA-A No. 2 Sissonville 4-3 in girls soccer Thursday.

Emily Ross also added a goal for the Wildcats (6-2-2).

For the Indians (8-2-1), Autumn Martin, Taelor Watts and Jenna Curry each notched a goal, with Curry's cutting the deficit to one with 9:48 left. But Nitro keeper Lindsey Kerns made 20 saves in the game, doing just enough to preserve the victory.

  • WINFIELD 2, WOODROW 0: Erika Hoff scored and keeper Faith Farley stopped five shots to earn the shutout for the host Generals (8-0-3). Winfield's other score was an own goal by Woodrow Wilson.
  • Ashley Chipps had nine saves for the Flying Eagles (6-1).

  • GW 2, HURRICANE 0: Kathleen Barber booted one goal in the first half and one in the second to account for all the scoring as the Patriots won at Schoenbaum Stadium.
  • Keeper Jarrett Walker made four saves in the shutout for the Patriots (7-2-1), who earned a 19-6 shot advantage over the Redskins (6-3). Hurricane goalie Leanna Payne notched seven saves.

  • RAVENSWOOD 7, POCA 1: Hannah Curtis scored two goals to lead the Red Devils past visiting Poca. With one goal each for the Red Devils (7-4) were Samantha Cobb, Megan Bigley, Heather Christian, Molly Ritchie and Rachel Miller.

    Does the person who says Sissonville has two starters out with injury want to be congratulated?

    Sissonville's girls team also was playing and has been playing without their two starting forwards. They are both out with knee injuries.
