Catholic shuts out Nitro 3-0

Rachel Silverman scored a goal and added two assists as Charleston Catholic shut out Nitro 3-0 in a battle of state-ranked high school girls soccer teams Monday.
Kirsten Mullins and Lucky Lucente each scored a goal for the Fighting Irish (11-2-2), the No. 1 squad in the Class AA-A state coaches association rankings.

For Class AAA No. 11 Nitro (7-4-3), Mallory Scarbro made eight stops.
Sissonville goalie Jana Curry had one save, and the Huskies' Elizabeth Thompson had 12. Hoover is 4-9.
Also scoring for the Redskins were Courtney Underwood, Lindsay Schwendiman, Staci Proudfoot and Deanna Boyer.
