Catholic shuts out Nitro 3-0
Prep soccer

Rachel Silverman scored a goal and added two assists as Charleston Catholic shut out Nitro 3-0 in a battle of state-ranked high school girls soccer teams Monday.

Kirsten Mullins and Lucky Lucente each scored a goal for the Fighting Irish (11-2-2), the No. 1 squad in the Class AA-A state coaches association rankings.

Diane Bronikowski turned in six saves for her ninth shutout for Catholic, which outshot the Wildcats 23-12.

For Class AAA No. 11 Nitro (7-4-3), Mallory Scarbro made eight stops.

  • SISSONVILLE 4, HOOVER 0: Sidney Sisson, Taelor Watts, Logan Walker and Kesha Harding each scored as the Class AA-A No. 2 Indians (12-3-2) blanked host Herbert Hoover.
  • Sissonville goalie Jana Curry had one save, and the Huskies' Elizabeth Thompson had 12. Hoover is 4-9.

  • HURRICANE 7, RIVERSIDE 0: Becca Logan drilled three goals to pace the host Redskins (8-4-1).
  • Also scoring for the Redskins were Courtney Underwood, Lindsay Schwendiman, Staci Proudfoot and Deanna Boyer.
