Soccer roundup: Last-minute goal lifts Capital girls

Tori Roadcap broke a three-all tie with just 16 seconds left to play to give Capital a 4-3 girls soccer win over visiting St. Albans Tuesday.

Taylor Simmerman pulled the Cougars even with less than two minutes to play with a goal from a Sarah Mangus pass. Mangus and Kallen Prokity also scored for Capital (3-8-3).

Kayla Gillenwater scored two goals for the Red Dragons while Cari Gregg added one.

  • POCA 2, HOOVER 0: Brooke Hager scored two goals in the final six minutes to lift Poca past host Herbert Hoover.
  • Kayla Moles recorded seven saves for the shutout victory for the Dots (8-8).

    Elizabeth Thompson stopped 16 shots for the Huskies (4-10).

  • WINFIELD 0, PARKERSBURG 0: Faith Farley stopped 13 shots as the Class AAA No. 1 Generals (11-0-4) and the Class AAA No. 12 Big Reds played to a scoreless draw. Elizabeth Corbitt made five saves for Parkersburg (8-5-1).   
  • GW 5, SC 0: Bailey Rhodes scored two goals to boost George Washington past South Charleston (6-6-2). Megan Johnson scored on a free kick from 60 yards out and Anna Kimberling and Morgan Smith also scored for the Class AAA No. 8 Patriots (12-2-1). Mary Harper collected 11 saves to earn her 10th shutout.
