Prep football's outstanding performances

 Calhoun County's Randy Fluharty was named The Associated Press state high school player of the week Monday after rushing 25 times for 329 yards and five touchdowns in a 33-14 win over South Harrison.

Other top performances last week:

  • Lewis County's C.J. Rahming ran 13 times for 250 yards and three TDs in a 38-21 win over Buckhannon-Upshur. He also caught two passes for 79 yards.
  • Philip Barbour's Jordan Simon carried 14 times for 239 yards and three TDs in a 55-21 win over Liberty Harrison. He also scored on a 58-yard punt return. Teammate R.J. Johnson caught eight passes for 151 yards and three scores from Jewel Short, who completed 10-of-14 passes for 161 yards.
  • Mount Hope's Da'Von Marion ran 22 times for 239 yards and three TDs in a 46-7 win over Midland Trail.
  • Madonna's A.J. Klein ran 14 times for 225 yards and two TDs in a 42-6 win over Clay-Battelle.
  • Valley Fayette's Jack Sims threw for 211 yards and three scores and he made an interception on defense in double overtime in a 38-32 win over Meadow Bridge.
  • Pocahontas County's Dexter Skidmore ran 18 times for 201 yards and five TDs in a 56-20 win over Wirt County.
  • Bluefield's Will Cole completed 16-of-22 passes for 247 yards and three TDs in a 40-7 win over Robert C. Byrd.
  • Weir's Bryant Davidson ran 23 times for 184 yards and three TDs in a 40-0 win over John Marshall. He also scored on a 25-yard fumble return.
  • Moorefield's Jake Hose ran for 187 yards and two TDs in a 17-0 win over Berkeley Springs.
  • Parkersburg Catholic's Tommy Brunoni ran 12 times for 181 yards and two TDs in a 48-7 win over Doddridge County.
  • Sissonville's Chris Cummings rushed 36 times for 179 yards and two TDs in a 29-26 win over Roane County. Roane County's Eric Jarvis ran for 186 yards and two scores.
  • Cameron's Steve McDonald ran 24 times for 173 yards and two TDs in a 40-16 win over Paden City. He also completed 6-of-10 passes for 60 yards and a score.

    Arthur ran for 275 yards and 3 touchdowns after setting out most of 2/3rds of the first quarter and all of the second quarter.

    He's leading the valley in rushing, averaging close to 10 yards a carry and not only is he not mentioned for last weeks performance against Hoover, he's not given any consideration in the Kennedy voting.

    The Gazette sports department is losing as much credibility as the rest of the paper.

    Caleb Arthur from Poca runs for 275 yards and three touchdowns and isnt even mentioned???? What is up with that?
