Soccer roundup: SC girls blank Greenbrier East

Julia France scored with 8:53 left in the second half as South Charleston (8-7-2) shut out visiting Greenbrier East 1-0 in girls soccer Thursday.

Karley Walker assisted on France's goal and Mary Harper stopped five shots to preserve the clean sheet.

  • CATHOLIC 2, POINT PLEASANT 0: Lucky Lucente and Amanda Johns had the goals as Charleston Catholic won at Shawnee Park. Keeper Diane Bronikowski didn't need to make a save for the Irish (13-3-2). Point Pleasant's Miranda Thompson made nine saves as Catholic led 32-0 in shots.
  • SISSONVILLE 9, HOOVER 1: Lindsey Lane had two goals for the host Indians (14-4-2), who ended their regular season with a win. Also scoring for Sissonville were Madison Edens, Emily Carpenter, Whitney Anderson, Autumn Martin, Megan Taylor, Taelor Watts and Meagen Minsker. For Herbert Hoover, Taylor Aab had a goal and Ariel Thaxton made 13 saves. Keepers Edens and Jenna Curry needed to stop just one shot for the Indians, who outshot the Huskies 21-2.
  • PARK. SOUTH 3, NITRO 1: Parkersburg South (8-7-3) outshot the Wildcats 25-6 en route to the win. Mackenzie Bourgeois, Kelsi Halberd and Hannah Somerville netted a goal apiece for the Patriots and keeper Sammy Hicks stopped four shots. Emily Ross scored for Nitro (7-6-4).
  • PARKERSBURG 5, HURRICANE 1: The Class AAA No. 14 Big Reds (10-5-2) scored the first four goals and cruised to a convincing home win. Taylor Bryant recorded two goals and Chelsey Maiden, Tori Boggs, and Elizabeth Lockney added one each for Parkersburg, while keeper Elizabeth Corbitt notched seven saves. Becca Logan scored for the Redskins (9-5-1), and goalie Leanna Payne had eight saves.

  • CALVARY 5, HOOVER 0: J.R. Nida scored four goals and Jeremy Ball added another to pace Calvary Baptist past visiting Herbert Hoover. D.J. Kirk stopped five shots in goal for the Huskies (1-16). Cody Totten had two saves for Calvary (8-4-1).
  • NITRO 3, CATHOLIC 2: Alex Ross netted two goals and Isaac Judd added one to lead Class AAA No. 4 Nitro (13-4-1) past visiting Charleston Catholic. Mark Bronikowski and Addison Hutcheson scored a goal apiece for the Irish (10-6-2), ranked No. 4 in Class AA-A. Four of the game's five goals were scored on penalty kicks.
  • WINFIELD 3, CAPITAL 1: The Generals jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead and held on for the victory at home. Shane Foster booted two goals for Winfield (9-4-4) and Dustin Atik added another, while keeper Caleb Martin recorded three save. Tyler Burdette scored the lone goal for Capital (5-8-5), and goalie Chase Vasale recorded two saves.
  • CABELL MIDLAND 3, GW 1: The host Knights received goals from Alex Molina, Kyle Ryder and Caleb Brownfield in a win over George Washington (10-4-1). Midland (13-3-1) owned an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. Ross Davis tallied the lone goal for the Patriots, while GW keeper Connell Green stopped four shots. Tyler Kennedy had two saves for Midland.
