The Class AAA Region 4 meet will take place at the Hurricane Wave Park and feature Cabell Midland, Huntington, Hurricane, Lincoln County, Parkersburg, Parkersburg South, Ripley, Spring Valley and Winfield. The girls begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by the boys at 5 p.m.
Midland, state runner-up last year, is second in the latest runwv.com boys team rankings while Winfield is fourth. Midland senior Trey Beckett is No. 11 in the individual rankings while Winfield senior Matt Burton is No. 18 and Parkersburg senior Dustin Meyers is No. 19.
On the girls side, Hurricane is the top-ranked team while Midland is seventh and Parkersburg South ninth.
Redskins junior Alex Dent is third and sophomore Kristen Hayslett is No. 25. Hurricane took fifth last year at states and Dent was 28th.
Other ranked runners include Winfield senior Megan Truelove (No. 7), Parkersburg senior Andrea Sall (No. 14), Midland senior Rachel Williams (No. 17) and South sophomore Sara Seebaugh (No. 22). Truelove, competing in Class AAA for the first time after Winfield moved up a classification this fall, came in fourth in the Class AA-A state meet last season.
The Class AAA Region 3 meet at Camp Virgil Tate has Capital, George Washington, Greenbrier East, Nicholas, Nitro, Riverside, St. Albans, South Charleston and Woodrow Wilson competing. The girls take off at 4 p.m., followed by the boys at 4:30 p.m.
St. Albans is ranked No. 7 in the boys division while SC sports the fourth-ranked runner in senior David Caldwell, who finished third at states last year. SA senior Caleb Ellis is No. 13. In the girls division, Capital senior Chelsea Jarvis is No. 8 and senior Christine Azevado is No. 21.
The Class AA-A Region 4 meet is also at Camp Virgil Tate and features Braxton, Calhoun, Charleston Catholic, Gilmer, Herbert Hoover, Huntington St. Joseph, Poca, Ravenswood, Roane, Scott, Sherman, Sissonville and Wayne. The girls start at 2 p.m. followed by the boys at 2:30 p.m.
Ravenswood (No. 2), the eight-time defending state champion, Scott (No. 9) and Charleston Catholic (No. 10) are ranked in the boys division. Red Devils seniors Nathan Rees (No. 4), Alex Cole (No. 11) and Derek Murray (No. 20) are also ranked individually while Scott junior Chase Nelson is No. 18.
Charleston Catholic is No. 7 in the girls division and Ravenswood is No. 9. Fighting Irish sophomore Ally Hoyer is No. 4. Catholic was fifth last year at states and Hoyer took 10th.
The state meet will take place Nov. 1 at Cabell Midland High, beginning at 10 a.m.
The number of teams to qualify for the state meet depends on how many full teams start each regional. Individuals in the region who finish in the top 10 and are not members of the qualifying teams also qualify for the state meet.
