Cameron Powell intercepted a pair of passes deep in his own end in the final two minutes Friday night, allowing top-ranked Williamstown to escape with a 21-16 victory over Man in the Class A quarterfinals.
The No. 9 Hillbillies (8-4) shaved their deficit to five points on an 82-yard touchdown pass from Cory Spence to Charles Crum with 2:09 left in the game, then recovered the ensuing onside kick.
Powell then picked off a Spence pass at his own 10 to thwart one Man drive. The Hillbillies forced a three-and-out and got the ball back at the Williamstown 47 after a punt, but just 9.7 seconds remained. On second down, Powell intercepted another pass to end it.
Williamstown (11-1) got its touchdowns on a 22-yard run by Powell, a 2-yard run by Matt Hendrickson and a 4-yard pass from Adam Kerns to Micah Wood. Powell had 164 yards on 26 carries.
Man's Khris Tolliver finished with 169 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Derrick Earnest booted a 25-yard field goal for Man.
Williamstown plays today's Wheeling Central-Matewan winner in the semifinals. Central has downed Williamstown each of the last three state finals.
Grafton (11-1) utilized several players in an overwhelming rushing attack. Damon Waters and Cameron Gallaher combined for 181 yards while Markus Griffin added a 67-yard touchdown run. Buck Gower also ran for a TD for the Bearcats.
Jake Young rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown for Ravenswood (10-2).
Grafton will meet Wayne next week for the third straight year in the playoffs.
