Dick Green, an assistant coach for the Nitro High School girls soccer team, collapsed and died before a game with Huntington on Saturday afternoon.

Green, the former Hurricane girls head coach, died after being taken to Thomas Memorial Hospital. (See obituary, Page 4B.)

Green was an assistant coach for the Poca girls squad last season. The Dots advanced to the Class AA-A regional finals before falling to Sissonville. Poca set a school record for wins and was playing in its first region final and won its first section game and section championship since the program began 15 years ago.

"One of the reasons we had such a great season and so successful was because Dick brought all kinds of skill and knowledge into our practices that made us a better team," said Poca head coach Mike Shrewsbury. "A guy that fit ... it just goes to show us anybody, anytime.''
