Roundup: Ripley boys, Scott girls take cross country titles

  • SISSONVILLE 6, POCAHONTAS 1: Josh Rawson and J.R. Strickland each tallied a pair of goals as Class AA-A No. 2 Sissonville cruised to a road win at Pocahontas County.
  • Anthony Rinehart and Sam Gary also scored for the Indians (7-1). Tyler Davis had the lone goal for the Warriors.

    Girls soccer

  • WINFIELD 2, GREEN. EAST 0: Katie Bryant and Mackenzie Pritt netted a goal apiece as Class AAA No. 3 Winfield notched a road win over No. 13 Greenbrier East.
  • Faith Burchet needed to make only one save for the Generals (7-0), while Hanna Bolt stopped four shots for the Spartans (4-4).

  • BRIDGEPORT 1, CATH-OLIC 1: Peyton Keener scored an equalizing goal in the 29th minute as Class AA-A No. 2 Charleston Catholic salvaged a draw with No. 5 Bridgeport at Schoenbaum Stadium.
  • Amanda Saymon got the Indians (4-2-1) on the board first with a strike in the ninth minute past Irish keeper Annie Crockett. Crockett finished the game with six saves for Catholic (5-0-1), while Bridgeport's Mariah Hall stopped four shots.

  • SCOTT 40, CHAPMANVILLE 21: Robert Bias rolled up 161 yards on 22 carries Friday night and host Scott used a punishing ground game to score a Cardinal Conference victory against Chapmanville.
  • Also for the Skyhawks (3-0), Cameron Loftus ran 15 times for 131 yards and three touchdowns and Tryston Cline added 74 yards and two TDs on 11 attempts.

    For the Tigers (1-2), Dustin Smith carried 13 times for 89 yards and a score, and Max Spradlin hit on 11 of 20 passes for 110 yards and two TDs with two interceptions.

  • LOGAN 48, LINCOLN COUNTY 0: Quarterback Chris Marcum and receiver Josh Rein hooked up for three long TD passes as the visiting Wildcats (3-0) remained unbeaten.
  • Marcum, who hit on 10 of 17 passes for 304 yards and four scores, found Rein on TD tosses of 65, 40 and 98 yards. Marcum also ran for 51 yards and a touchdown and on defense intercepted two passes and made five tackles. Rein grabbed five balls for 247 yards.

    Logan's Khaleel Reynolds carried 10 times for 46 yards and one TD and caught four passes for 54 yards and another score.

  • VALLEY 20, VAN 0: Cody Winter churned out 153 yards on 20 carries and scored a touchdown as the visiting Greyhounds disposed of the Bulldogs.
  • Valley (2-0) fumbled five times and lost four, but Van wasn't able to cash in on those mistakes. The Bulldogs punt seven times and threw an interception. Valley's Matt Whiteside completed 3-of-3 passes for 80 yards with a score.

    The Greyhounds only held a 6-0 lead at halftime then scored twice in the third period.

  • TOLSIA 12, FAIRLAND 9: Dawson Presley scored on a 1-yard run with 54 seconds left as the host Rebels snapped an 18-game losing streak.
  • Presley scored earlier in the night on a 40-yard TD in the first quarter to put the Rebels (1-2) on the board first. Fairland answered in the third quarter with a safety after a Tolsia fumble into the end zone.

    , followed by a 40-yard touchdown reception by Kyle Sowards to put the Dragons (2-1) up 9-6.

    The Rebels only allowed 81 yards of offense, but generated 181 yards against Fairland.
