Wayne didn't score 84 again this week, but its offense continued to roll.

Brandon Spurlock rushed for 159 yards on 13 carries and four touchdowns as No. 3 Wayne blanked No. 7 Sissonville 42-0 in a matchup of top 10 Class AA teams Friday night at Joe Sawyer Field.

"This was an awesome win," Spurlock said. "They [Sissonville] weren't a bad team. We just came out ready. We worked all week for this [win]."

Spurlock, a returning first-team all-stater, came into the contest with just 22 carries in three games this year with 375 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Spurlock had only played in one series in the second half this season, getting one carry.

On Friday, he added 13 more carries and another series in the second half but this game getting two carries after the break, with his second carry accounting for a 39-yard touchdown.

"I couldn't done it without the team," Spurlock said. "That last touchdown [referring to the 39-yard touchdown] was set up perfect. I'm happy that I got it the 13 times that I did. We won and that's the beauty of it."

"He's [Spurlock] a threat anytime he gets the ball," said Wayne coach Tom Harmon. "He's also a complete player and totally unselfish. He's not the guy who goes to UnderArmour Elite football camps or has everybody hyping him up. He's just a producer. If you look at his yards per carry and the things he does when the football is in his hands, we wouldn't trade him for anyone."

Wayne (4-0), defending Class AA champion, has averaged a jaw-dropping 57.5 points per game this season. Last week, it thrashed host Ravenswood 84-42, a game where the Pioneers led 64-12 at halftime.

"We get a lot of production because we have a lot of ways to be effective," Harmon said of his high-scoring offense. "We have really good players. Sometimes we have been effective throwing the football. At other times, we have been effective running the football. But, there are no guarantees for tomorrow. No guarantee that you are always going to play week. Each team brings a new challenge."

The Pioneers racked up 369 yards of total offense on the night (124 yards passing and 245 yards rushing).

The Pioneers moved the ball to the Sissonville 6-yard line on their first drive after a Spurlock 23-yard run in which he jumped over an Indian defender as he tried to tackle him. But the Indians forced a four-and-out.

After the Indians (2-2) were forced to punt on their first possession, the Pioneers struck first on the fourth play of their next drive when Spurlock scored on a 3-yard run.

"I like Noel Devine and I have watched videos of him doing that [jumping over defenders]," Spurlock said. "The thing I didn't know was it was a personal foul for doing that. That really shocked me."

The Pioneers added more scores on a Kurt Arthur 68-yard pass from Grant Ferguson, a Spurlock 33-yard run, Spurlock's 5-yard run and a James Egnor 95-yard interception return.

"We were locked up on the receivers," Egnor said. "Our coaches had us ready for the play. I figured on the goal line that the inside guy would be going outside so I just waited on the quarterback to throw it."

At the half, the Pioneers led 35-0.

Austin Crawford led the Indians with 168 passing yards. The Indians were without leading rushing Trent Stowers, who suited up but was unable to play.

"He has a sprained ankle," said Indians coach Eddie Smolder. "He tried to practice and it hurt too badly. So the trainers decided not to play him tonight. If he could have gone, then he would have.

"We have two good teams these last two weeks and we embrace that. Playing tough games is great for our kids to get exposure and used to playing in big games. Next week will be a big game at Tolsia. We have to get over this and focus on Tolsia Monday."
