Prep soccer: No. 1 Catholic boys knock off University

Sam Revercomb scored two goals as Class AA-A No. 1 Charleston Catholic registered a 2-1 win over Class AAA University in Morgantown on Saturday in a boys soccer match. Sven Wermuth had a goal for the Hawks.

  • NITRO 2, EAST FAIRMONT 0: Evan Eich scored two goals, both assisted by Alex White, to help lead Nitro against visiting East Fairmont. Nitro (7-6) goalkeeper Lee Klocke registered seven saves while Brett Matheny and Cameron Gibson combined to make seven for the Bees (8-1-1).
  • HURRICANE 8, EAST CARTER, KY. 0: Felipe Thompson had three goals and two assists as visiting Hurricane rolled to a win in a game played at Kentucky Christian University. Trevor Cunningham had two goals while James Snavely, Rodrigo Bevaqua and Tim Hayslett chipped in with one each for the Class AAA No. 1 Redskins (12-0).
  • POINT 1, RIVERSIDE 1: Cole Goode scored a goal 20 minutes into the second half as Riverside (3-8-1) salvaged a tie at home against Point Pleasant. Steve Porter scored the lone goal for the Big Blacks (8-6-1).
  • CAPITAL 1, GREEN. EAST 1: Adam Browning buried a free kick from 40 yards out with just five minutes left, salvaging a tie for visiting Greenbrier East. Christian Huffman scored a goal for Capital (4-4-2).
  • ST. JOE 3, SA 1: Steven Jenkins had all three goals for visiting St. Joseph. For St. Albans (3-9-1), Ronnie Broderick scored and keeper Brian Knight stopped eight shots.
  • SISSONVILLE 2, BLUEFIELD 2: Sissonville held a 25-12 advantage in shots on goal but managed just two goals in a tie at home. Josh Rawson scored both goals for the Indians. Ryan Stamper and Justin Phillips had a goal apiece for the Beavers, while Brandon Elderidge made 22 saves.
  • GW 1, WHEELING PARK 0: Noah Miller scored a goal in the 44th minute as Class AAA No. 7 George Washington edged No. 14 Wheeling Park at Schoenbaum Soccer Stadium. Garrett Phillips stopped three shots for GW (10-3-1), while Ryan Fiedewicz made three saves for Wheeling Park (5-5-3).
