Prep roundup: SC girls open with 68-56 loss at Parkersburg

Imani Ward scored 23 points as host Parkersburg notched a season-opening 68-56 win over South Charleston in girls high school basketball Tuesday.

Megan Morrison chipped in 16 points for the Big Reds (1-0). Lina Villanueva netted 25 points for the Black Eagles (0-1), while Alliyah Webb added 10.

  • HUNTINGTON 55, SA 42: Huntington got off to a slow start but finished with a 9-0 run and picked up a road win over St. Albans.
  • Kiana Evans finished with a game-high 21 points for Huntington (1-0), while Dominique Gibson chipped in 14 points and nine rebounds. The Red Dragons (0-1) were paced by Breana Propst with 15 points and Katelyn Propst with 11.

  • GREENBRIER EAST 65, SHADY SPRING 38: Chaunte McDowell scored 14 points and had eight steals to lead Class AAA No. 5 Greenbrier East to a season-opening win against visiting Shady Spring.
  • Elizabeth Romeo added nine points for the defending AAA state champion Spartans (1-0) and Bianca Andre' scored six points and had three steals.

    Morgan Hylton led Shady Spring (0-1) with 18 points while Kaylee Dickinson poured in 11 points to go  with 18 rebounds.

  • RAVENSWOOD 53, WIRT 34: Ravenswood jumped out to a 28-14 halftime lead and went on to secure a home win.
  • Taylor Youell poured in 19 points for Ravenswood (1-0) while Hannah Murray and Taylor Treadway each added six points and nine rebounds. Kayla Kinney posted 12 points for Wirt County (0-1).

    Boys

  • CALVARY 48, GRACE 42: Trent Spears scored 14 points and Jace Heller added 13 as Calvary Baptist beat visiting Grace Christian. Griffin Holstein added 12 points for Calvary (1-0) and Mitchell Harmon contributed six points and 10 rebounds. For Grace Christian (0-1), Titus Willis and Mason Welch each scored 10 points.
