Hunter Moles scored 14 points Saturday afternoon and visiting South Charleston held on in the final moments to open its season with a 59-57 boys basketball victory against Princeton.
Rashaud Kincaid and Trey Clark each added 10 points for the Black Eagles, who led 48-38 after three quarters and were still up by 11 points with three minutes left before the Tigers rallied.
"We took a couple bad shots,'' said SC coach Vic Herbert, "and on three straight possessions they hit a 2 and two 3s and were right back in it. We just didn't close them out.''
Ryan Meadows poured in 28 points to pace Princeton (1-1) and Hunter Walters scored 15.
BUFFALO 74, RIVER VIEW 35: Levi Jordan tossed in 16 points and Aaron Lewis 14 as the Bison earned a easy win in the Coal Field Shootout at the Maidson Civic Center.
Bradley Harris added 10 points for Buffalo (3-0), which used all 11 of its players in every quarter. Tony Clevenger had 11 points to lead the Raiders (0-4).
SHERMAN 77, VAN 45: Blake Brewer's 19 points led the way for the Tide's Coal Field Shootout win. Garrett Lester added 11 points for the Tide. Brandon Elswick scored 18 points for the Bulldogs.
WYOMING EAST 62, TUSKY CENTRAL 59: Christian Hedinger (19 points) and Josh Tunstalle (16) were the top scorers for the Warriors in their Coal Field Shootout victory. Andrew Cugliari's 16 points paced Tuscarawas Central (Ohio), which led at halftime.
BELFRY 80, BERWICK 68: Tony Messer scored 34 points as Belfry, Ky., earned a third-place victory in the Coal Field Shootout at the Madison Civic Center. Zack Landonis netted 20 for Berwick, Pa.
FLORA MACDONALD 69, TOLSIA 51: Barren Williams exploded for 27 points as Flora MacDonald (N.C.) defeated Tolsia in the Coal Field Shootout in Madison. Jarad Scott chipped in 20 points for Flora (8-3). Morgan Stacy netted 20 points for the Rebels (2-2).
GREEN. EAST 59, ALLEGHANY (VA.) 45: Obi Romeo recorded a triple-double with 14 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks to lead Greenbrier East to the championship of the Covington (Va.) Rotary Invitational. Rondell Watson scored a game-high 16 points for the Spartans (5-0) while Dereck Weiford had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Davon Smith led Alleghany (2-2) with 16 points.
HOOVER 62, GILMER 42: Herbert Hoover's Cody Morris scored 15 points, had 14 rebounds and four blocked shots to lead the Huskies. Sam Schoolcraft had 14 points and five assists for Hoover (1-1). Anthony Aviles scored a game-high 19 points for visiting Gilmer County.
TUG VALLEY 68, WESTSIDE 45: Mikey Newsome tallied 18 points as Tug Valley won at home. Austin Brewer contributed 16 points for the Panthers while Thomas Baisden added 12. Justin Cogar had 12 for Westside.

SCOTT 73, SHERMAN 44: Logan Webb had 16 points to pace a balanced attack for the host Skyhawks at the Coal Field Shootout. Also for Scott (3-0), Eric May scored 15 points, Matt Dolan 13 and Anthony Sigman 13. For the Tide, Blake Brewer had 13 points and Cody Muncy 10.
LOGAN 49, CAPITAL 31: Freshman Monica Mitchell had 16 points and 15 rebounds and sophomore Shayna Gore also added a double-double (15 points, 10 assists) during a win for the host Wildcats (3-2). Capital (2-1) received seven points from KeKe Walker as Khadijah Lee was held scoreless.
MINGO 48, CHAPMANVILLE 31: Ashley Curry scored 14 points to lead Mingo Central past visiting Chapmanville. Chrissy Farmer added nine points for the Miners (2-3). Kristin Desrocher led the Tigers (3-2) with 14 points.
