Prep roundup: Hurricane girls nip SC

Abby Watson made two clutch free throws with 13 seconds left in the game as Hurricane upended visiting South Charleston 51-48 in girls high school basketball Monday.

Watson finished the game with 29 points, 14 of which were scored in the fourth quarter, 10 rebounds and five blocks for the Redskins (2-2).

Taneisha Sturdavent led Hurricane with 19 rebounds.

Alleyah Webb netted 13 points for the Black Eagles (4-2).

  • VALLEY 55, FAYETTEVILLE 52: Alexis Payne exploded for 36 points as Valley (5-0) handed visiting Fayetteville its first loss of the season.
  • Jessica Brown had a team-high 20 points for the Pirates (4-1).

  • WESTSIDE 72, MAN 34: Westside jumped out to a 42-15 halftime lead over Man en route to a home win Monday.
  • Hope Lester posted a double-double with 17 points and 16 boards for the Renegades (5-0), while Faith Davis netted 16.

    Summer Sword had a team-high 17 points for the Hillbillies.

  • BRAXTON 55, LIBERTY 20: Taylor Bragg tossed in 16 points and Hunter Sodaro 13 to pace the host Eagles (4-2).
  • Ann Golinsky added 10 assists and Caitlin Rhodes nine rebounds for Braxton County.

    For Liberty Harrison, Heather Hickman had seven points.

  • SCOTT 54, WAYNE 25: Ali Whitman scored 13 points as Scott (4-1) downed visiting Wayne.
  • Tasha Maynard had 13 points for the Pioneers (1-5).
