Girls roundup: Ward tallies 40 in GW win vs. Nitro

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Rachel Ward erupted for a career-high 40 points, including seven buckets from behind the 3-point arc, as George Washington rolled to a 88-64 home win over Nitro in girls basketball Tuesday.

Kelli Jo Harrison poured in 27 points and 14 rebounds as the Patriots (2-1) held a 47-31 halftime lead.

The Wildcats (3-3) had four players in double digits, including Kelli Douglas (15), Halie Miller (13), Savannah Shamblin (12) and Melissa Belcher (12).

  • CAPITAL 68, RIVERSIDE 43: Khadijah Lee recorded 18 points as Capital cruised past Riverside.
  • Keke Walker added 17 for the Cougars (3-1). Rachael Mills pumped in 16 points for the Warriors (2-4), while Brittany Wood chipped in 14.

  • SISSONVILLE 57, RIPLEY 32: Madison Jones scored 12 of her 14 points from beyond the 3-point arc to help lead Sissonville (3-2) to the win.
  • Karli Pinkerton scored a game-high 21 points for the Indians while Ripley's Sarah Williams led the Vikings (0-5) with 11 points.

  • HOOVER 66, VAN 8: Herbert Hoover ran out to a 26-2 advantage after the first period and never looked back at the Sherman Holiday Tournament.
