Girls roundup: Jones, Pinkerton lead Sissonville past Hoover

Madison Jones scored 22 points and Karli Pinkerton added 16 as host Sissonville defeated Herbert Hoover 50-31 Tuesday night in girls high school basketball.

Jones hit four 3-pointers for Sissonville (8-2), which took a 28-13 halftime lead. Jordan Marshall and Caroline Thornburg scored seven points apiece for Herbert Hoover (6-3).

  • PRINCETON 101, OAK HILL 17: Princeton jumped out to a 28-6 first-quarter lead and never looked back as the Class AAA No. 3 Tigers cruised to a 101-17 girls basketball road win over Oak Hill Tuesday.
  • Mckenzie Akers exploded for 24 points for Princeton (7-1) while Khadija Payne and Maranda Wimmer had 16 and 14 points, respectively. Sarah Kessley scored seven points for Oak Hill.

  • NICHOLAS 58, RICHWOOD 19: Shealyn Shafer had a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead Nicholas County past visiting Richwood.
  • Makayla Willis added 12 points in the win for the Grizzlies (9-1). For Richwood (5-4), Hannah Brown was the leading scorer with nine points.

  • SUMMERS 82, JAMES MONROE 47: Brandy Morrison accounted for a game-high 26 points and Haley Shrewsbury finished with 11 to lead Summers County (8-1) to the win.
  • For visiting James Monroe (7-3), Carter Shifflet had 17 points, Kelsie Mann tallied 11 and Laine Shifflet scored 10.
