Prep basketball roundup: Capital boys edge Nitro 73-71

Carrington Morris netted 23 points Thursday night as Capital edged host Nitro 73-71 in overtime in boys basketball.

Austin Coleman hit a bucket from 3-point range with 12 seconds left in regulation for the Cougars (5-6) to force the OT. Coleman finished with 20 points. The Wildcats (5-4) were paced by Angelo Sirianni with 28 points and Trevon Taylor with 21.

  • HUNTINGTON 65, GW 55: Arick Nicks had 16 points and 17 rebounds (including 10 offensive boards) as the host Highlanders (6-2) won a battle of Class AAA ranked teams. Chancelor Wooding added 15 points and nine rebounds for No. 10 Huntington. For No. 9 George Washington (6-3), Luke Eddy poured in 30 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Dominic King added 11 points.
  • WINFIELD 48, WOODROW 44: Zach Fisher scored 11 points and Brock Pence added 10 as the Generals (6-4) notched a home win. Donte Nabors led all scorers with 16 points for AAA No. 7 Woodrow Wilson (4-4) and Andrew Johnson tallied 13.
  • RIVERSIDE 60, MIDLAND 43: Marcus Reed scored 14 points to lead visiting Riverside (5-5), followed by Tyus Wood with 12 and Tamar Lawson and Nick Light with 11 each. Dakota Leonard led Cabell Midland with 11 points.
  • SC 74, PARKERSBURG 33: A.D. Cunningham scored 16 points as host South Charleston avenged last year's state tournament loss to the Big Reds. Neal Brown tossed in 12 for the AAA No. 3 Black Eagles (8-1). Ben Umpleby and Trevor Britton each had eight points for Parkersburg.
  • SA 43, RIPLEY 39: Taylor Clark was the player in double figures for host St. Albans (4-4) with 10 points. The Vikings were led by Kade Harrison with 16 points and Chuck Sleboda with 14.
  • NICHOLAS 55, HOOVER 45: Eric Peyatt tallied 18 points for host Nicholas County (6-2) and Jared Tharp added 16. Cody Morris scored 17 points for Herbert Hoover (6-3) and Joey Forbes 11.
  • TEAYS VALLEY 96, ST. JOE 68: Elias Beacom erupted for 36 points to lead five double-digit scorers for visiting Teays Valley Christian. Ben Parsons chipped in 14 points for Teays Valley (11-3). Michael Mays led St. Joseph with 23 points.
  • GREEN. EAST 66, ALLEGHANY 60: Rondale Watson poured in 27 points as AAA No. 4 Greenbrier East earned a road win. Obi Romeo recorded a double-double with 19 points and 21 rebounds for the Spartans (11-0). Kendall Kessinger lead Alleghany (Va.) with 20 points.
