Prep roundup: Nicholas County girls trip No. 3 Clay County in OT

Shealyn Shafer posted a double-double with 32 points and 15 rebounds as Class AA No. 5 Nicholas County upset host No. 3 Clay County 73-71 in overtime Thursday in girls high school basketball.

Lauren Young added 11 points for the Grizzlies (12-1). Brittany Gould tallied 30 points for the Panthers (12-2) and McKinzee Barker 18.

  • CAPITAL 64, RIVERSIDE 51: Keke Walker scored 17 points and Khadijah Lee 16 to help lift Capital (6-5) past visiting Riverside. Brittany Wood recorded a triple-double with 24 points, 13 blocks and 12 rebounds for the Warriors (3-11) and Sheree Clayborn had 12 points.
  • MIDLAND 52, NITRO 28: Emily Pitkin had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Sierra Jordan totaled 11 points and 12 rebounds for host Cabell Midland (9-3). Savannah Shamblin and Haleigh Mace scored six points each for the Wildcats (7-6).
  • HUNTINGTON 68, WINFIELD 37: Kianna Evans tallied a game-high 23 points for the Class AAA No. 6 Highlanders (11-3) and Lacy Johnson added 12. For the Generals (7-6), Mara Rhoades scored 12 points.
  • POINT 49, RIPLEY 44: Andrea Porter scored 18 points for Point Pleasant (4-10), which withstood a fourth-quarter rally at winless Ripley (0-13). For the Vikings, Sarah Williams scored 14 points and Jillian Mullins 10.
  • TOLSIA 60, WAYNE 10: Krista Maynard recorded a triple-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals to help lead Tolsia to the win against visiting Wayne (3-8). Savannah Winnett had 16 points and nine rebounds and Jamie Maynard added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Rebels (9-3).
  • MAN 64, SHERMAN 46: Summer Sword erupted for 33 points as Man beat visiting Sherman. Taylor Whited finished with 14 points for the Hillbillies (8-3). Sarah Massey scored 19 points and Jordan Lewis finished with 11 to lead the Tide (6-7).
  • LOGAN 70, LINCOLN CO. 52: Shayna Gore had 17 points and 11 assists and Hannah Tothe and Kyra Cline each tallied 11 points for the host Wildcats (8-3). Kerbi Slone scored all 15 of her points in the fourth quarter for Lincoln County.
  • LAWRENCE 76, TUG VALLEY 58: Taylor Porter poured in 36 points as Lawrence County (Ky.) won at Tug Valley. Adreana Vance paced Tug Valley with 16 points and Whitney Evans-Kirk chipped in 15.

  • WYOMING EAST 59, SCOTT 57: Brett Bowling scored 24 points and the visiting Warriors held off a late comeback attempt by the Skyhawks. For Scott (8-4), Matt Dolan had 17 points, Logan Webb 16 and Eric May 14.
  • PRINCETON 72, ST. ALBANS 56: Ryan Meadows had 24 points and Hunter Walters 18 as the host Tigers (10-2) broke away late for the victory. For the Red Dragons (4-6), Nathan McNeil scored 17 points and Thad Moss nine.
