GW favored in Charleston Family YMCA swim meet

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Eight high school swim teams will compete in today's Charleston Family YMCA swim meet, and for the majority of those eight the meet will serve as a warmup for the rapidly approaching postseason.

George Washington enters the meet as the clear favorite in both the boys and girls competition. The Patriot boys and girls have been rolling along this season, sweeping their last three meets (all at the University of Charleston). At last week's HYCAT January Invitational, GW swimmers won in 11 of the 21 total events.

Individually, South Charleston's Austin Green has been making a habit of breaking records during his senior season. Green broke two meet records (100-yard butterfly and 100 breaststroke) at last week's HYCAT meet in addition to swimming the opening leg for the Black Eagles' 400 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay teams.

Capital, Charleston Catholic, St. Albans, Nitro, Cabell Midland and University will also compete in today's meet, scheduled to start at noon.
