Prep roundup: Eddy scores 36 points, leads GW past Princeton 72-62

Luke Eddy scored 36 points and George Washington jumped out a 10-point first-quarter lead en route to a 72-62 boys basketball victory at Princeton Saturday.

Eddy also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out six assists for the Patriots (9-3). Also for GW, Dominic King added 14 points and Austin Breeden had nine points and six rebounds.

Ryan Meadows paced the Tigers (10-3) with 27 points. Princeton entered the game ranked No. 6 in Class AAA.

  • SC 87, WESLEYAN CHRISTIAN 40: South Charleston got off to a 28-4 start and cruised at home. A.D. Cunningham led the Class AAA No. 2 Black Eagles (11-1) with 16 points while Brandon Knapper added 11. Joshua Amuzu scored 16 to lead Wesleyan Christian Academy of Kentucky.
  • CATHOLIC 69, NOTRE DAME 45: Charleston Catholic jumped out to a 42-24 halftime lead as the Class A No. 1 Fighting Irish downed visiting Notre Dame. Catholic (9-1) had four players in double-figure scoring, including Nick George (19), David Godwin (15), Zach Casto (14) and Garett McCarty (12). Cal Castaro netted 28 for Notre Dame.
  • SISSONVILLE 63, VALLEY 48: Zach Null scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half as Sissonville downed visiting Class A No. 8 Valley. Trent Stowers also contributed 17 points for Sissonville (4-8). Valley (7-2) was paced by Cody Winter with eight points.
  • RIPLEY 71, MINGO 70: Ripley used a 27-15 fourth-quarter run to earn a home win. Casey Smith exploded for 32 points for the Vikings while Kade Harrison added 13 and Jacob Haynes 12. Chase Hatfield paced Mingo Central with 12 points.
  • CHAPMANVILLE 80, NICHOLAS 54: Mackenzie Martin tallied 33 points and 16 rebounds as host Chapmanville cruised to a win. Mike Hurst added 14 points for the Tigers (8-4) and Trey Dalton chipped in 13. Jared Tharp led Nicholas County (6-6) with 18 points followed by Eric Peyatt with 12 and Cody McClung with 11. The Grizzlies were outscored 27-4 in the second quarter.
  • WEBSTER 68, PIKEVIEW 54: Brett Morris scored 20 points and Hunter Given scored 17 to lead Webster County (9-1) to the win. For PikeView (4-8), Jason Weitzel was the leading scorer with 11 points.
  • CROSS LANES 44, MERCER 29: Austin Davis scored 12 points to lead visiting Cross Lanes Christian (10-8). Tyler Corbin and Grant Humphrey had 10 each for CLS, while Mercer Christian (9-5) was led by J.J. Easter's 11 points.

  • ELK VALLEY 64, REGIONAL 40: Trey Suttle scored 36 points to lead Elk Valley Christian to the win against visiting Regional Christian. Daniel Beverly chipped in with 15 points for Elk Valley, while Matthew Daniels led Regional with 15 points.
  • Girls basketball

  • SISSONVILLE 61, VALLEY 60: Madison Jones made 1 of 2 free throws with 4.2 seconds left in the game to allow Class AA No. 7 Sissonville to score the home win. Jones finished with 34 points for the Indians (11-3) and Karli Pinkerton chipped in 16. Alexis Payne tallied 26 points for the Greyhounds (8-2) while Abby Buchan added 21.
  • GW 65, RIVERSIDE 39: Kelli Jo Harrison scored 21 points and Rachel Ward finished with 25 to lead George Washington (9-4) to the road win. For Riverside (3-12), Rachel Mills tallied 12 points.
  • HUNTINGTON 72, SC 51: Kianna Evans scored 21 points as Huntington downed host South Charleston. Dazha Congleton added 14 for the Highlanders (12-3). Taliah Cashwell had 12 points for the Black Eagles.
