UC's Dreher earns WVC weekly honor

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston's Robbie Dreher, who came off the bench to spark last week's home upset victory against top-ranked West Liberty, was named the West Virginia Conference men's basketball player of the week.

The 6-foot-4 junior guard from Greenville, S.C., donated team-highs of 21 points and four assists and also grabbed eight rebounds. He hit 11 of 15 free throws as UC extended its winning streak to seven games.

SC boys take over No. 1 spot in AAA ratings

South Charleston was the only new No. 1 to emerge in this week's boys high school basketball ratings, taking over the top spot from Martinsburg in the Class AAA poll.

Martinsburg dropped to No. 3 after falling to Morgantown last week. The Mohigans moved up to the No. 2 spot. Hurricane dropped out of the rankings after losses to George Washington and SC last week, while the Patriots reentered the ratings at No. 10.

Bluefield and Poca remained No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the Class AA ratings while Charleston Catholic also held on to No. 1 in the Class A vote, coming in just ahead of Tug Valley and Tucker County.

Buffalo came in at No. 7 in Class A.

Green. East, Westside, St. Joe remain No. 1

Greenbrier East, Westside and St. Joseph were still the top-ranked girls high school basketball teams in their respective classes in Monday's Associated Press polls.

East received all 10 first-place votes to remain No. 1 in AAA followed by University, Spring Valley, Morgantown and Princeton. George Washington dropped from eighth to No. 10.

In AA, Westside garnered nine of the 10 first-place votes for the top spot, followed by Bridgeport. Nicholas County, Clay County and Summers County were tied for fourth. Sissonville stayed seventh.

St. Joseph, which received all 10 first-place votes, was No. 1 in Class A, trailed by Wheeling Central, St. Marys, Clay-Battelle and Tucker County. Valley dropped from seventh to eighth.
