GE, Westside, St. Joe still No. 1 in girls polls

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Greenbrier East, Westside and St. Joseph remain No. 1 in their respective classes Monday in the Associated Press girls high school basketball polls.

Greenbrier East, the defending state champion, received all eight first-place votes for the top spot in Class AAA, followed by Spring Valley, Morgantown, Huntington and Princeton. George Washington moved up a spot to ninth.

In AA, defending state titlist Westside garnered all eight first-place votes for No. 1, followed by Bridgeport, Nicholas County, Robert C. Byrd and Clay County. Sissonville fell three spots to No. 10.

St. Joe, the four-time defending state champion, received all eight first-place votes for the top spot in Class A, followed by St. Marys, Wheeling Central, Clay-Battelle and Tucker County. Valley remained eighth. (See Page 2B for polls.)
