Prep roundup: Valley boys defeat Man at Hometown Invitational

Class A No. 9 Valley raced out to a 31-12 first-quarter lead as the Greyhounds downed visiting Man 90-62 in a Hometown Invitational boys basketball contest Tuesday.

Raeshawn Breckenridge netted 19 points for Valley (9-3) while Keyshawn Payne and Zac Warden chipped in 16 and 14 points, respectively. The Hillbillies (4-12) were paced by Jake Adkins with 22 points.

  • TOLSIA 48, POCA 42: Class AA No. 7 Tolsia used an 18-11 fourth-quarter run to defeat visiting No. 2 Poca. Morgan Stacy scored 21 points for the Rebels (10-6) while Terry Davis contributed 11. Noah Frampton paced the Dots (13-2) with 12 points and Matt Chandler had 10.
  • NICHOLAS 68, CHAPMANVILLE 59: Jared Tharp paced all Nicholas County scorers with 24 points as the Grizzlies won at home.
  • Austin Hill added 14 for Nicholas County (8-6). Mackenzie Martin netted 24 points for Chapmanville (8-6) while Kenny Plumley chipped in 19.

  • HOOVER 51, CLAY 41: Aaron Burdette led Herbert Hoover (9-5) with 14 points while Sam Schoolcraft and Joey Forbes each scored 13 for the Huskies. For Clay County (7-8), Michael Shamblin had a team-high 11 points.
  • CATHOLIC 64, GILMER 36: Garret McCarty netted 20 points as Class A No. 1 Charleston Catholic cruised to home win. Nick George added 13 points for the Fighting Irish (12-1) while David Godwin and Zach Casto each had 12. Austin Cunningham led Gilmer County with 11 points.
  • SISSONVILLE 63, WAYNE 40: Trent Stowers turned in 17 points and six rebounds to power the visiting Indians. Zach Null pitched in 15 points for Sissonville (6-9), which outscored the Pioneers 22-1 in the second period for a 35-11 halftime edge. Alex Elkins had eight points for Wayne (4-10).
  • TUG VALLEY 83, ST. JOE 43: Tug Valley raced out to a 45-13 halftime lead and never looked back for the home win. Three Tug Valley players scored double digits including Thomas Baisden (20), Mikey Newsome (15) and Austin Brewer (14). Michael Mayes had a team-high 20 points for St. Joseph.
  • WILLIAMSTOWN 51, RAVENSWOOD 41: Jake Martin posted 18 points as Ravenswood won on the road. Dalton Gandee added 10 for the Red Devils (4-9). Williamstown (5-11) was paced by Chandler Webber's 13 points.
  • TEAYS VALLEY 70, GRACE 59: Elias Beacom tossed in 32 points and Justin Wojcieszak 18 as host Teays Valley Christian celebrated Senior Night with a victory over Grace Chrsitian. Ben Parsons added 11 points for TVC (15-4). Grace received 21 points from Nathan Welch and 17 from Kris Adkins.
  • WOOD COUNTY 55, CALVARY 48: Jamie Arnold scored 24 points and Patrick Goff finished with 10 to lead visiting Wood County Christian (7-12) to the win. For Calvary Baptist (10-7), Jace Heller led the way with 21 points while Trent Spears tallied 17.
