Junior guard Donte Nabors dropped in 22 points and freshman low post Nequan Carrington 20 as the Flying Eagles won their sixth straight game, earning a 74-51 victory at George Washington.
The Flying Eagles played without senior point guard Andrew Johnson, who sat out the game with an ankle injury sustained Monday against Shady Spring. Johnson is expected to be back when Woodrow plays in the Big Atlantic Classic on Friday.
"I thought we'd be more competitive,'' said GW coach Rick Greene, "but [Woodrow] was just really good defensively early and then just crashed the boards. They got on the glass. They're playing the way Beckley plays right now, and not like when they were struggling a little bit.''
Woodrow Wilson (10-4) came into the game ranked No. 10 among state Class AAA schools, one spot behind the Patriots (11-4), who had their own five-game win streak snapped.
The outcome also tied Woodrow and GW atop the MSAC East Division standings, each holding 3-1 records. If they remain tied for first place at the end of the season, the Flying Eagles will earn a spot in the Night of Champions title game via the head-to-head tiebreaker.
GW, which trailed 42-20 at halftime, got 23 points from Luke Eddy and 12 from Austin Breeden.
"Luke got 23 points tonight,'' Greene said, "but he had to earn every one of them. They just came up and played great defense. They were very patient offensively, too. Coach [Ron] Kidd has them ready at both ends of the floor, and that's a credit to them.''
HURRICANE 42, ST. ALBANS 31: Hurricane held St. Albans to just two points in the third quarter after being tied at the half to pull away from the host Red Dragons.For the Redskins (12-4), Henry Sorsaia had 13 points and Rasaan Harris scored 12.
Quamise Carter led St. Albans (4-11) with eight points.
RIVERSIDE 59, PARKERSBURG 52: Marcus Reed scored six of his 16 points in the fourth quarter as the host Warriors (7-10) broke away to earn a victory.Trevor Smith's putback of a missed shot allowed the Warriors to tie the game after three quarters and gave them momentum heading into the final period. Josh Butcher went 4-for-4 at the foul line in the fourth quarter to give Riverside some room.
Tyus Wood added 11 points for the Warriors. For the Big Reds (5-11), Trevor Britton had 19 points and Ben Umpleby 13.
