Prep basketball roundup: Greenbrier East girls cruise past SA

Bianca Andre' scored 21 points to lead Greenbrier East past St. Albans 65-39 in the girls division of the Big Atlantic Classic at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center in Beckley on Thursday.

The Spartans (12-0), the top-ranked team in the Associated Press poll for four straight weeks, will take on University at approximately 5:40 p.m. Saturday in the co-championship game. The Red Dragons (8-8) will face Westside at 9 a.m. Saturday in the consolation.

Chaunte McDowell added 13 points and five assists for East, which scored 26 points off SA's 25 turnovers. The Red Dragons led 20-18 early in the opening half, but the Spartans went on a 14-2 run to end the second period and take a 32-22 lead.

SA's Breanna Propst turned in 23 points, 10 rebounds and two steals and Katelyn Fields added eight points.

  • SPRING VALLEY 75, WINFIELD 45: Brooke Heck and Madison Morris had 19 points apiece as visiting Spring Valley cruised to a win. Sarah Kelly tossed in 18 points for the Timberwolves.
  • Haeley Moore led all scorers with 21 points for the Generals (8-9), while Morgan Eggleton tallied 16.

  • SC 48, NITRO 31: Alliyah Webb scored 11 points as South Charleston (9-9) downed Nitro at home.
  • Savannah Shamblin led the Wildcats (8-10) with 13 points.

  • CLAY COUNTY 62, POCA 44: Clay County held a 14-4 advantage in the third quarter, turning a halftime deficit into a road win. Brittany Gould erupted for 29 points for Clay. Isabelle Haverty tossed in 10 points for the Panthers.
  • Harley Hutchins led Poca (4-12) with 15 points.

  • CABELL MIDLAND 61, HURRICANE 49: Sierra Jordan recorded 19 points as Cabell Midland secured a road win.
  • Emily Harden added 12 points for the Knights (11-5). Abby Watson tallied a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Redskins (5-13), while Audrey Barber had 12 points.

  • BUFFALO 39, TEAYS VALLEY 32: Buffalo held host Teays Valley Christian scoreless in the first quarter. Chelsey Parkins scored 18 points for Buffalo and Tiffani Bailey chipped in 13.
