Former St. Albans football coach Derek Christian agreed to become the new coach at Lincoln County, according to published reports. Christian will replace Cory Beck, who resigned last fall after a 0-10 season.

Christian is also Lincoln County's assistant principal and athletic director.
The peak of Christian's success as a coach at his alma mater, St. Albans, was an appearance in the 2007 state championship game which resulted in a 22-15 loss to Parkersburg. He was also a player in the school's 1979 championship game loss to Bridgeport.

Emily Cole and Cassidy Maynard will each sign to play women's soccer at Concord, while football players A.J. Covert (Eastern Kentucky), T.C. Kester (West Virginia State), Garrett Grafton (State) and Seth Lewis (Alderson-Broaddus) will all sign as well.
At GW, Ryan Switzer's signing with North Carolina will lead the group of Patriots in a 10 a.m. signing ceremony in the school gym.
The others are: Dustin Crouser (Charlotte), Jordan Clay (Air Force), Sam Plantz (Concord), and Jacob Whitlock (Alderson-Broaddus).

MARSHALL HONOREES: Football player Vinny Curry and softball player Andi Williamson were honored last weekend as Marshall's 2011-2012 student-athletes of the year.
Curry was drafted 59th overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in last year's NFL Draft after finishing his senior season with 11 sacks, 22 tackles for loss and seven forced fumbles.
Williamson, a former Chapmanville standout, had 25 wins as a junior last season with a 1.50 earned run average, good for the fifth-best mark in school history, and 268 strikeouts, just two off the school record.

TECH MEN WIN: Campbellsville rode a 40-point effort by Vernon Payne to downed WVU Tech 95-83 in Campbellsville, Ky.
Tech won earlier this season in Montgomery.
David Rawlinson led the Golden Bears with 24 points and five assists. Jaren Marino contributed 22 points and Eddie Gordon added 13.

WVC HONORS: Fairmont State's Isaac Thornton has earned West Virginia Conference men's basketball player-of-the-week honors, helping the Falcons to a 2-0 week with wins over Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan.
For the week, Thornton averaged 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, two assists and two steals for the week. He also hit 59 percent from the floor and was 6 of 6 from the foul line.

Pitt Johnstown's Kaitlynn Fratz and West Liberty's Hillary Southworth have been named co-WVC women's players of the week.Fratz guided the Mountain Cats to a 2-0 week while helping extend their winning streak to five games. In the 10-point win at Shepherd, Fratz connected for a team-high 24 points; against Alderson-Broaddus, she played just 18 minutes but amassed nine points, six assists, two steals and a rebound.
Southworth helped the Hilltoppers to a 2-1 week, scoring 26 points each in wins over Bluefield State and West Virginia State.
nnWVU SPORTS: Women's basketball player Christal Caldwell and track and field athlete Sydney Cummings were named West Virginia co-athletes of the week on Monday.
Caldwell averaged 22.5 points per game as the Mountaineers knocked off back-to-back ranked opponents in Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. Cummings tied a school record with a high jump of 1.78 meters at the Akron Invitational on Saturday.
The gymnastics team held on to its No. 22 ranking on the vault and moved up to No. 16 in the floor exercise in the GymInfo national poll.nnTECH HOOP RANKINGS: The WVU Tech men's and women's basketball have received top-10 rankings the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national poll and Association of Independent Institutions Division I poll.
The men's team is 14-9 and ranked seventh in the USCAA national poll while placing second in the AII poll. The women's squad is 11-12 and is currently ranked fifth in the USCAA national poll and first in the AII poll.
nnHOOPS TOURNEY: The Mercer County Shoot-Out basketball tournament will be held Feb. 22-24 in Princeton.
