  • Pitt Johnstown's Kaitlynn Fratz and West Liberty's Hillary Southworth have been named co-WVC women's players of the week.
  • Fratz guided the Mountain Cats to a 2-0 week while helping extend their winning streak to five games. In the 10-point win at Shepherd, Fratz connected for a team-high 24 points; against Alderson-Broaddus, she played just 18 minutes but amassed nine points, six assists, two steals and a rebound.

    Southworth helped the Hilltoppers to a 2-1 week, scoring 26 points each in wins over Bluefield State and West Virginia State.

  • WVU SPORTS: Women's basketball player Christal Caldwell and track and field athlete Sydney Cummings were named West Virginia co-athletes of the week on Monday.

    Caldwell averaged 22.5 points per game as the Mountaineers knocked off back-to-back ranked opponents in Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. Cummings tied a school record with a high jump of 1.78 meters at the Akron Invitational on Saturday.

  • The gymnastics team held on to its No. 22 ranking on the vault and moved up to No. 16 in the floor exercise in the GymInfo national poll.

  • TECH HOOP RANKINGS: The WVU Tech men's and women's basketball have received top-10 rankings the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national poll and Association of Independent Institutions Division I poll.

    The men's team is 14-9 and ranked seventh in the USCAA national poll while placing second in the AII poll. The women's squad is 11-12 and is currently ranked fifth in the USCAA national poll and first in the AII poll.

  • HOOPS TOURNEY: The Mercer County Shoot-Out basketball tournament will be held Feb. 22-24 in Princeton.
