Justin "Cookie'' Clinton, the quarterback last year at three-time defending Class AAA champion Martinsburg, has a football offer from the University of Charleston but is waiting to see if he gets any interest in baseball, his favorite sport, where is a standout second baseman and outfielder.

Clinton was the Bulldogs' MVP in last year's title game win in Wheeling against Cabell Midland, rushing 16 times for 101 yards and one touchdown and completing 8 of 14 passes for 125 yards and two more scores.

In other news involving players around the state:

  • Winfield linebacker A.J. Covert is scheduled to sign today with Eastern Kentucky, a top Football Championship Subdivision program. He received academic and athletic money, but not a full athletic scholarship.
  • Scott Levine, a first-team Class AA all-state kicker and punter from Robert C. Byrd, is expected to sign as an invited walk-on at WVU.
  • Trevond Reese, a slot receiver-defensive back from South Charleston, may sign next week with UC, Middle Tennessee State, Virginia Military Institute or Fordham.
