Boys roundup: Poca defense shuts down Sissonville

Poca clamped down on defense Friday night, holding visiting Sissonville to eight first-half points in earning a 60-40 boys basketball victory.

Noah Frampton led the Dots (15-2), ranked No. 4 in Class AA, with 18 points followed by Cam Cottrill (14), Jake Payne (12) and Matt Chandler (11).

Zach Null was the lone double-digit scorer for Sissonville (7-11) with 18 points.

  • WOODROW 75, ST. ALBANS 41: Woodrow Wilson won its 11th consecutive game while visiting St. Albans lost its 10th in a row.
  • Donte Nabors led the Flying Eagles (15-4) with 22 points while Nathan McNeil led St. Albans (5-14) with 15. Nequan Carrington (18) and Chase Hancock (12) also scored in double digits for Woodrow.

  • POINT 60, LOGAN 51: Dillon McCarty knocked down 10 of 12 foul shots in the last four minutes as visiting Point Pleasant took the win.
  • McCarty finished with 22 points for the Big Blacks and Alex Somerville turned in 18. Zak Miller tallied 14 points for the Wildcats and Worm Street and Trent Dalton donated 10 each. Logan's A.J. Reynolds grabbed 14 rebounds.

  • WESTSIDE 77, WYOMING EAST 75: Justin Cogar made two foul shots with 2.4 seconds to play to break a tie and lift Class AA No. 6 Westside to the win at Class AA No. 7 Wyoming East.
  • Levi Lambert led the Renegades (13-6) with 21 points while Corey Bowls finished with 20. Adam Canada led Wyoming East (12-5) with 21 points. 

  • GE 65, BLUEFIELD 49: Rondale Watson posted a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds as Class AAA No. 5 Greenbrier East rolled past Bluefield.
  • Obi Romeo added 14 points and 22 boards for the Spartans (17-1) while Bryce Woodliff chipped in 14. Corey Coppola recorded a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Class AA No. 1 Beavers (15-2) and Anthony Eades had 15 points.

  • SOUTH 74, WHEELING PARK 57: Wes Mitchem contributed 23 points and 10 rebounds as visiting Parkersburg South downed Wheeling Park.
  • Doug Dennis pumped in 18 points for AAA No. 4 South (15-3) while Cody Monroe added 12 points and 12 assists. Ryan Reinbeau totaled 20 points for Park (6-9). Zach Snedeker dropped in 13 and Luke Saseen 10.
